Description of the attraction

The Marc Chagall Art Center was established in 1992. The choice of the building - an architectural monument of the 19th century is not accidental either. Marc Chagall depicted this red two-story house in his famous painting "Above the City".

The works of Marc Chagall were presented to the art center by the artist's daughter Ida Chagall and his granddaughters. They submitted a total of 96 works signed by the master. Other works are donated from private collections. The collector Heinrich Mandel from Irrel (Germany), who donated not only the works of Marc Chagall, but also books on contemporary art, on the basis of which a scientific library for the study of contemporary art was opened here, was a great help in the formation of the funds of the art center. At the moment, the library has more than 3000 titles, most of which are unique.

The art center contains a unique collection of the artist's works: more than 300 authentic lithographs, woodcuts, etchings, aquatints by Marc Chagall. The pride of the museum collection is the artist's illustrations to Nikolai Gogol's poem "Dead Souls", color lithographs from the cycle "The Bible", the famous series of lithographs "The 12 Tribes of Israel".

The Art Center aims to popularize contemporary fine arts. In the halls of the art center, there is not only a permanent exhibition of works by Marc Chagall, but also exhibitions of other contemporary artists, both Belarusian and foreign, literary evenings, meetings with prominent people of the art world, and other interesting events.

The museum is located on two floors. On the first floor there is a permanent exhibition of Marc Chagall's graphics (etchings, lithographs), on the second floor - the rest of the exposition and exhibitions of contemporary art held in the art center.
