Description of the attraction
Fiftieth Anniversary Park in Brussels, opened for the anniversary of Belgium's independence, houses several museums, including the Belgian Museum of the Royal Army and Military History. It occupies one of the pavilions erected for the National Exhibition held at the end of the 19th century.
Initially, these pavilions were intended for various cultural events. Now they are occupied by three museums. The exposition of the museum is based on a collection of war trophies, which was exhibited at the World Exhibition at the beginning of the 20th century. Unexpectedly, the exposition with weapons was a huge success. Therefore, after the end of the exhibition, it was decided to leave it. This is how the Belgian Museum of the Royal Army and Military History was formed. First, a selection of items related to the military history of Belgium was transported to the Cambrai Monastery, and in 1923 - to the pavilion in the Park of the Fiftieth Anniversary, where it is still located.
The museum contains a huge collection of edged weapons and firearms, artillery pieces, samples of army uniforms, flags, etc. One of the exhibition halls is a huge hangar, where military helicopters and aircraft produced in Europe in the last century are installed. You can climb into many aircraft to inspect them from the inside, sit in the pilot's seat and imagine yourself in the skies over Belgium. Tanks and armored vehicles are on display in the courtyard of the museum. To see the collection of the Belgian Museum of the Royal Army and Military History, you do not need to purchase tickets: admission is free.
