Description of the attraction

Astrakhan State Picture Gallery. P. M. Dogadin is the first art museum of the city of Astrakhan, founded by the donor of the painting collection P. M. Dogadin in 1918. Since 1921, the gallery has been located in the building of a cultural monument of the late 19th - early 20th centuries. The Plotnikovs' estate is a three-storey brick building with two-storey outbuildings in the courtyard. The collection of the gallery comprises more than 10, 5 thousand storage units.

This is one of the richest and most interesting art museums in the Volga region, representing the work of almost all major Russian artists, from icon painters and portrait painters of the 18th century to modern Soviet art. In the department of Russian art of the 18th – 19th centuries, works by F. S. Rokotova, D. G. Levitsky, V. L. Borovikovsky, K. P. Bryullova, A. G. Venetsianova, S. F. Shchedrin, I. K. Aivazovsky, A. P. Bogolyubov, V. A. Tropinin, V. G. Perova, N. V. Nevreva, L. I. Solomatkina, A. K. Savrasov, I. I. Shishkina, K. E. Makovsky, V. V. Vereshchagin, A. I. Kuindzhi, V. D. Polenov.

Painting of the late XIX - early XX century is represented by the works of I. E. Repin, I. I. Levitan, V. A. Serova, M. V. Nesterova, K. A. Somova, V. E. Borisov-Musatov, N. K. Roerich, P. P. Konchalovsky.

The funds of the art gallery are constantly replenished with works of artists from Astrakhan, artists from Central Asia and the Caucasus. A special place in the collection of the museum is occupied by the works of Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev, who was born in Astrakhan. These are 22 paintings and over 100 graphic sheets.
