The field of the Sorochinskaya fair in Velikiye Sorochintsy, Mirgorodsky district, is the largest, largest and most famous fair and exhibition place. In the period from 19 to 20 Art. the fair in Velyki Sorochintsy was held five times a year. The Sorochinskaya Fair became famous thanks to the work of the writer Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol. All trade in the villages came under the control of the state and cooperatives.

The revival of fairs began in 1966 with the Sorochinskaya fair. Many representatives of various enterprises, production and trade organizations came here not only from Poltava region, but also from other regions of the country, from abroad. People came to Sorochintsy who wanted to buy various and scarce goods at that time.

The period of perestroika, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the first years of independence, when the country was experiencing inflation and a continuous shortage of goods, could lead to the withering away of the Sorochinskaya Fair. The fair was held almost out of inertia, not arousing enthusiasm either from the participants or from the organizers. But this did not happen.

Today, the field of the Sorochinskaya fair in Velyki Sorochintsy is known to every Ukrainian and far beyond the borders of Ukraine. It is visited annually by about a million guests, including heads of state and foreign diplomats.

In recent years, a folklore and ethnographic section has been equipped here, where products and souvenirs of folk crafts of the best masters of the country are sold. The fair is held annually in the penultimate week of August. The rest of the time, you can simply explore the field of the Sorochinskaya fair with models of traditional windmills, huts and other wooden buildings.
