Description of the attraction

The Jenaba Ahmed Pasha Mosque is located in Ankara on Uluchanlar Street. It was built, according to the inscription above the entrance, during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent in 1566 in honor of the Anatolian and Rumelian runaway Ahmed Pasha. Inside the mosque is the octagonal tomb of Ahmed Pasha. Beglerbek translated from Turkish means the prince of princes.

Built from red porphyry by the prominent architect Sinan in the 17th century, the mosque is an architectural wonder and is considered the oldest mosque in Ankara. The most attractive part of the mosque is the prayer niche, made of white marble. It has a rectangular shape and covers an area of 14x14 meters.

The mosque has three tiled domes and a balcony, as well as one tall minaret that rises to the right of the entrance. Three large pointed arches are built in front of the entrance.

The interior is illuminated through thirty-two small windows arranged in three rows. Large crystal chandeliers hang from the ceiling. There are several marble columns in the northwest corner of the mosque.

Restoration work in the mosque was carried out twice - in 1813 and 1940.
