Description of the attraction

Both the mountain range and its highest mountain are called Big Chimgan. Peak Big Chimgan rises above the surrounding area at 3309 meters. The highest point of the Big Chimgan is marked with a white cross. It is very difficult to get to it without special mountaineering training. Therefore, the sign marking the peak is set lower - at the level of 3275 meters. Usually it is to this sign that tourist groups reach. Memorial plaques are fixed on the sign, on which the names of the dead local climbers are listed. The ascent to the top does not last long: 2-3 hours. In 1994, climbers set a record and conquered it in 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Most of the mountaineering groups start from the Aksai gorge and reach the top of the Big Chimgan along the Western ridge. In winter, you can climb the Central Couloir, but this requires special climbing equipment. Longer, but also simpler routes to the summit are laid along the eastern and southern ridges.

Back in the days of the Soviet Union, the Chimgan ski base and several sanatoriums appeared at the foot of the Big Chimgan Mountain. 7 km from the tourist center there is a cable car built in the 80s of the last century. In its entire history, it has practically not been repaired, but it still brings people to the top.

Alpine skiing lovers come here in mid-December, when snow falls, which alternate with clear weather. Snow stops falling around January 10th. Accordingly, the majority of holidaymakers leave during this period. The second peak of the season begins in February, when the mountain slopes are again covered with a thick layer of snow.
